Chapter 34 Awakening
Chapter 34 Awakening
dark.
Boundless darkness and excruciating pain enveloped Lu Ye like a tidal wave.
The sounds of the outside world completely disappeared, and only fragmented images flashed wildly in my mind.
"Brain tumor? Late stage! Lu Ye, what am I supposed to do? I'm only twenty-six! I can't spend the rest of my life on a dying man!"
The woman's voice was sharp and cold.
With a loud bang, the door slammed shut, and the woman who had once vowed to spend her life with him disappeared down the corridor without even turning her head.
Having already decided to give up treatment, Lu Ye did not try to persuade her to stay. He returned to his room and gently stroked his daughter's hair with his trembling hands.
Seeing my daughter so adorable in her sleep, I felt the courage to live for the first time!
The scene suddenly shifts.
In a house in his hometown, his daughter, with pigtails, hugged a rag doll and tugged at his clothes with tears in her eyes.
"Daddy...where did Mommy go? Did I misbehave and make Mommy angry? I don't want new dresses anymore, please let Mommy come back..."
Lu Ye felt as if his heart was being gripped tightly by a large hand.
He crouched down, forcing back the tears welling in his eyes, then managed a smile that looked worse than crying, and reached out to wipe away his daughter's tears.
"My little girl is the best. Mommy isn't angry... She just went to a very far place. Daddy is also going to work in a very far place to earn lots and lots of money to buy the most beautiful new dress in the world for my little girl, okay?"
After coaxing his daughter, who was crying herself to sleep, to sleep, Lu Ye took out a real estate agent's card, which he had received by chance earlier that day while delivering food on the street.
The screen shattered again.
On the train platform, the father, whose hair was somewhat gray, trembled as he stuffed an old cloth bag containing a few coins into his arms.
The elderly mother turned away, secretly wiping away her tears.
"Yezi, go... Don't worry about home. Nannan has us two old bones to look after her, she won't go hungry."
The father's eyes were red and swollen, his voice choked with sobs, "You...you must be alright, you must come back alive to see your daughter!"
"Come back alive..."
"Live!"
In the endless darkness, Lu Ye's soul roared madly.
I can't die! I need points! I have to survive! Anyone who gets in my way, I'll kill them!
"Well!"
Lu Ye suddenly opened his eyes!
A hoarse growl escaped his throat, and his body instinctively tried to spring up, but a tearing pain shot through his right side, slamming him back onto the operating table.
"Don't move around. Your wound has just been stitched up."
A calm voice came from beside me.
Lu Ye was panting heavily, his bloodshot eyes fixed on the powerful flashlight on the ceiling.
The focus gradually became clear.
The strong smell of disinfectant filled my nostrils.
He turned his head and saw Roman sitting not far away, organizing medical equipment.
"Who are you!"
"You actually woke up at this time? Three hours earlier than I expected. Your constitution is beyond my expectations."
Roman pushed up his glasses, picked up the walkie-talkie on the table, and said, "Boss, he's awake."
Less than a minute later, the tent flap was lifted.
Yuri strode in, followed by three fully armed men of different builds.
Despite the excruciating pain, Lu Ye struggled to sit up.
"Lie down." Yuri walked to the operating table and looked down at him.
"Congratulations, you've crawled back from hell. Your intelligence was accurate; Vorov has already called in missile units to raze that workshop to the ground."
Lu Ye stared intently at Yuri: "So that means I've completed the mission."
"That's right! You have nothing to do with Vorov or that cannon fodder battalion anymore." Yuri interrupted him, a cold smile curving his lips.
"Your electronic file has been completely destroyed. In the Russian military's system, Lu Ye has been killed in action. This is your only paper file, and it's now being handed over to you!"
After saying that, Yuri placed the file folder next to Lu Ye.
Lu Ye's pupils contracted slightly, but he quickly regained his composure.
He knew this was Yuri's doing.
He also knew that Yuri might want more!
"From today onwards, you are a temporary mercenary for the Undertaker Black Scythe Squad." Yuri turned to the side and pointed to the four people behind him.
"Get to know your new comrades. On the battlefield, they are the only people you can trust."
"Roman, the squad's adjutant and medic. He's the one who saved your life from the jaws of death."
The man with the gold-rimmed glasses, who looked refined, nodded to Lu Ye: "You have a strong will, but that doesn't mean you can abuse your body."
"Eugene, the squad's ace and communications electronics expert. Mine clearance, cyber intrusion, he's got it all."
A lean man chewed gum and gestured to Lu Ye: "Brother, the commotion you caused at the chemical plant last night was so big, even I have to give you a thumbs up."
"Ruslan, the heavy gunner. He's the one who carried you back last night."
A burly, bald man with a grizzly bear-like physique grinned: "Kid, if anyone dares to bully you in the future, my machine gun will make them shit their ass."
"The last one, Artyom. The squad's current sniper."
A man with a somewhat lazy look in his eyes, carrying an SVD sniper rifle, stepped forward and looked Lu Ye up and down: "I heard you're pretty good at fighting? But being a sniper isn't just about being fearless."
Yuri clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention back.
"I heard from Dmitry that you have a certain talent for sniping."
Yuri stared sharply into Lu Ye's eyes. "But in my Black Scythe Squad, what I need is absolute strength. I don't keep useless people or freeloaders."
Lu Ye met Yuri's gaze without flinching: "What do you need me to do?"
"We have a tough battle in a few days. I need a real sniper, someone who can pick off targets from hundreds of meters away," Yuri said, pointing to Artyom.
"You have three days to recover. Three days later, before the operation begins, you and Artyom will have a live-fire contest. If you win, the position of the squad's first sniper will be yours. Artyom will be your second-in-command, providing cover with an assault rifle."
"What if I lose?" Lu Ye's voice was hoarse, devoid of any emotional fluctuation.
"If you lose, you'll take up a rifle and follow Ruslan into battle as a regular assault soldier," Yuri said calmly.
Lu Ye fell silent.
Assault troops are meant to be at the forefront, enduring the densest barrage of fire.
Even then, before he had used up his remaining lifespan, he was already lying on the road to the assault, riddled with bullet holes!
He cannot entrust his life to probability.
He needs to earn more points to exchange for lifespan and enhanced attributes.
Becoming a sniper was his only way to control the battlefield and survive.
"it is good."
Lu Ye swallowed hard, a chillingly ruthless look appearing on his pale face.
"I accepted it."
"You're so confident even though your injuries haven't fully healed yet?" Artyom raised an eyebrow.
Lu Ye turned his head and looked at Artyom, like a lone wolf.
"I have no way out."
