Chapter 36 Competition Rules
Chapter 36 Competition Rules
The next morning, inside the Black Scythe Squad's tent.
Lu Ye leaned against the cot, the air thick with the pungent smell of disinfectant.
Roman carried the medical kit into the tent and walked to the bedside, while Yuri followed behind expressionlessly.
"Bear with it, let me check how well the wound is healing," Roman said, carefully cutting the bandage wrapped around Lu Ye's waist.
When the last layer of gauze was removed, Roman's scissors suddenly stopped.
Lu Ye lowered his head and followed Roman's gaze to his waist. The previously bloody, piercing wound had now grown a layer of bright red granulation tissue, and the edges of the wound were even beginning to scab over.
"What the f**k..." Roman pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, his voice filled with barely concealed shock.
"The muscle fibers torn by the bullet have already started to grow? How is that possible! Only a few hours have passed!"
Yuri stepped forward, stared at the wound for two seconds, raised an eyebrow, and said nothing.
"Boss, the special medicine in that bastard Wolf's safe is beyond the comprehension of modern medicine!" Roman suddenly turned to look at Yuri, his voice excited.
"If we could get a few more to carry with us, the team's survival rate would definitely double! Could we ask him for a few more?"
Upon hearing this, Lu Ye's heart skipped a beat, and a fine layer of cold sweat instantly appeared on his forehead.
He knew very well that no matter how miraculous Wolf's medicine was, it could never have such a life-saving speed.
What really made a difference was the [Military-Grade Cell Repair Fluid] that he redeemed with 500 points yesterday!
"Don't even think about it." Yuri shook his head, shattering Roman's fantasy.
"I blackmailed him for that drug last night by threatening him with information. Vorov is greedy, and that stuff is priceless on the black market. If I ask for it now, he'll definitely turn on me. I'll try to get some more from him after this mission in Kalinovka is over."
Lu Ye secretly breathed a sigh of relief. As soon as his tense muscles relaxed, he looked up and met Yuri's sharp eyes.
"You're sweating a lot." Yuri stared at Lu Ye's face and asked, "Weak? Or are you afraid of something?"
"It hurts..." Lu Ye gritted his teeth, trying to hide the panic in his eyes.
Then, looking at Yuri with a hint of gratitude in his eyes, he said, "Thank you, boss. If it weren't for that medicine, I might have died on the operating table last night."
Lu Ye thought this statement would bring them closer, but Yuri's expression instantly turned cold.
"Keep your eyes to yourself." Yuri looked down at Lu Ye, his tone filled with coldness.
"On the battlefield, the last thing you need is cheap gratitude. Gratitude creates bonds, and bonds make you hesitate when you pull the trigger. I went to so much trouble to protect you, not to hear you say thank you! Want to repay the favor? Then pay with the lives of the enemy!"
"I understand." Lu Ye composed himself.
Yuri nodded, then turned to Roman: "Can his physical condition support high-intensity exercise? I'm having him have a sniping contest with Artyom at 5 PM this afternoon."
"This afternoon?" Roman was stunned. "Boss, this is too hasty! Although the wound is scabbing over quickly, the recoil of the sniper rifle could tear it open again at any moment! Why does it have to be today?"
"Because there's not enough time." Yuri lit a cigar, his expression grave. "Vorov just shared the latest intelligence. The strategic value of the Kalinovka marshalling yard is skyrocketing."
"The Ukrainian army will be making a massive troop buildup there in three days! Once they complete their deployment, it will become an impregnable fortress."
"Moreover, intelligence indicates that a large-scale, bloody battle is likely to break out between the two sides around there in five days. We must act before Ukrainian reinforcements arrive."
"So, if he wins this afternoon, we'll rest for the night, and then we'll set off first thing tomorrow morning, launching a surprise attack on the marshalling yard precisely tomorrow night!"
Yuri turned to Lu Ye and stared at him: "Kid, can you handle this?"
Lu Ye's brain was working at lightning speed.
The Ukrainian army will reinforce its troops in three days and will take action tomorrow night.
He now has only 13 days left to live, and every second he delays brings him closer to death.
He desperately needs this battle to earn points, then extend his life and improve himself!
"I'm fine with it," Lu Ye replied without hesitation, his eyes gleaming with fervor.
Roman looked at Lu Ye, who had made up his mind, and then nodded to Yuri: "Okay, I'll check his injury again before the match this afternoon to see if he meets the requirements!"
-----------------
At 5 p.m., an abandoned mine pit near Camp 17.
The setting sun was already close to the horizon, and the dim afterglow cast extremely long shadows of the ruins.
The cold wind whipped up the sand and dust on the ground, which stung my face.
Under the arrangement of Vorov and the Black Scythe Squad, this place was temporarily transformed into a tactical shooting range.
At the edge of the field, Yuri, Ruslan, and Eugene stood together.
To Lu Ye's surprise, Colonel Wolf also arrived at the scene with his adjutant.
"What brings you here to watch the game?" Yuri exhaled a puff of smoke and said calmly, "Is the fireplace in the command center not warm enough?"
"Haha! I'm just curious, is the person you personally rescued worth hundreds of thousands of dollars?" Wolf shivered from the cold, his fat body trembling, a barely perceptible ruthlessness flashing in his eyes.
He was clearly very curious about this "cannon fodder" who had managed to come back alive from the chemical plant.
In the center of the field, Lu Ye and Artyom stood side by side.
Artyom held his well-maintained SV-98 sniper rifle, while Lu Ye held the improved SVD that Yuri had just issued to him, equipped with a high-magnification optical sight.
"Lu Ye, your recovery speed has once again amazed me!" Roman said to Lu Ye, who was standing there. "At this rate, you'll definitely be fully recovered by tomorrow morning!"
After saying that, Roman glanced at Yuri not far away again and muttered, "I still think we should extort Vorov's private collection!"
Upon hearing this, Lu Ye broke out in a cold sweat again.
"Listen, the rules are simple!"
Having composed himself, Roman stood in front of the two men, holding an electronic timer and scoreboard, and announced loudly.
"As snipers, you face extremely complex battlefield environments. Therefore, the competition consists of five events, best of three out of five!"
"First item: Precision shooting at a fixed target at 400 meters. This will test your basic accuracy."
"Second item: 300-meter random target display. This will test your dynamic capture and reaction speed."
"Third task: 200-meter tactical strait reversal firing! You must move rapidly between three bunkers and accurately engage targets during the gaps in your movement!"
Upon hearing the third item, Lu Ye frowned slightly.
His back injury hasn't fully healed yet, and forcing himself to run would definitely affect the stability of his shooting. Artyom, on the other hand, is a veteran of the special forces, and his muscle memory is ingrained in his bones.
Roman continued reading without pausing:
"Fourth challenge: 500-meter extreme pressure shooting! You will first need to perform a 100-meter sprint while carrying heavy loads, and then, under extreme conditions with your heart rate soaring, immediately lie prone and complete a precise sniper kill from 500 meters away!"
"As for the fifth item... it will be announced after the first four items are completed!" Roman looked up at the sky.
