Chapter 9 New Mission
Chapter 9 New Mission
The bearded medic patted Lu Ye on the shoulder and grinned, "Kid, you're lucky. Stay alive."
Alexei rushed up and grabbed Lu Ye by the neck: "Hahaha! Private! Let's go, let's celebrate! I still have half a bottle of vodka!"
The surrounding soldiers also gathered around, chattering and making a fuss.
Supported by two soldiers, Vasily approached. "Congratulations! You've escaped cannon fodder and become a full-fledged mercenary!"
"Thank you! If it weren't for your guarantee, Colonel Igor might not have agreed!" Lu Ye said to Vasily with a solemn expression.
"Don't mention it, I believe my life is worth the money, and I believe in you!" After saying that, he raised his hand with difficulty and patted Lu Ye's shoulder.
"Wah-zai, don't die too soon. I still owe you my life." After saying that, he went back to rest with the help of the soldiers.
Lu Ye looked at Vasily's retreating figure and nodded: "I won't die! I can definitely do it!"
Then he was surrounded by the crowd again, a smile on his face, but he was thinking about something more important.
[Available Skill Points: 1] Continue to allocate points to Basic Shooting. [Basic Shooting (LV3 to LV4)]
Static shooting accuracy increased by 60%.
[Dynamic shooting accuracy increased by 25%]
He currently has 1 available attribute point. After using it, his total attributes will reach 27, which will unlock the attribute cap. After considering it for a while, he decided to add it to his constitution, so that he can not only run fast but also have long endurance!
[Constitution 9/10 (Not yet unlocked)]
[The host's total attributes have reached 27. The attribute cap is yet to be unlocked. The reward for the next mission will be adjusted to: unlock the attribute cap]
"Damn it, this takes up one of my reward quotas!" Lu Ye cursed under his breath.
"Although I'm currently on probation, I'm now a full-time employee, so I should have more tasks," Lu Ye thought. "A stable source of tasks means more opportunities to earn points. And points mean lifespan."
He must accumulate more points as soon as possible to exchange for lifespan.
"Alexei," Lu Ye suddenly asked, "Any missions coming up lately?"
Alexei paused for a moment, then gave a meaningful smile: "You little rascal, you're already thinking about making money right after getting promoted?"
"Make money? No, no, I just want to get my first mission as soon as possible," Lu Ye quickly explained. "I can only get paid if I complete the mission, and my family is waiting for me to send money!"
Alexei glanced at him, stopped teasing, and lowered his voice, saying, "I heard there's an escort mission to transport a batch of supplies to the front lines. It's risky, but the reward is high. The only problem is the timing is uncertain!"
"Help me register."
"Are you sure? That route has been closely monitored by the enemy recently."
"Sure."
Lu Ye looked at the hazy sky in the distance, where the distant roar of artillery fire could be faintly heard. He had to earn enough points within these nineteen days to survive.
[Trigger a long-term mission: Shed your cannon fodder status and become a full-fledged mercenary!]
[Mission Description: Your current status is that of a "Polar Bear Foreign Legion Cannon Fodder Mercenary," with an extremely high mortality rate and no protection under the Geneva Conventions. Please obtain official mercenary status or Russian military membership through combat achievements, connections, or special contributions.]
[Current Stage: Obtained official combat personnel status at the temporary camp (probationary period)]
[Quest Reward: All Attributes +1, Inventory Unlocked!]

Before the morning mist had even dissipated, regular gunfire rang out on the training grounds of the temporary camp.
Lu Ye stood in front of the firing position, the AK-74M in his hand rising and falling slightly with his breathing.
Since being officially assigned to the unit three days ago, he has been training here every day, two hours of shooting and two hours of physical training.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Three bullets landed precisely on the forehead of a human-shaped target 100 meters away, with the bullet holes almost overlapping.
Basic Shooting (LV4) Proficiency +0.1%
Current proficiency: 1.3%
Lu Ye put down the gun and rubbed his sore wrist.
The system's feedback on the increase in proficiency is outrageously slow. At this rate, it would take at least half a year to raise the skill to LV5 through practice.
"As expected, the skill points awarded by the system are the fastest way to improve."
He put away his gun and walked toward the obstacle course at the edge of the camp.
Climbing over tire walls, scaling rope nets, and performing weighted sprints...
By the time Lu Ye finished his last training session, the sun was already high in the sky.
He leaned against the wooden crate, soaked to the bone, panting heavily, sweat dripping from his chin onto the ground.
"Three days have passed, and there's still no news about this escort mission?" Lu Ye checked his interface:
Life expectancy: 16 days (death will occur in 16 days due to a ruptured brain tumor)
"Lu Ye!" Alexei's voice came from afar.
The burly machine gunner jogged over, his face beaming with excitement: "Mission's here! Escort team, departing this afternoon!"
Lu Ye abruptly stood up, ignoring his exhaustion: "Tell me in detail."
"A batch of supplies needs to be transported to the 17th Artillery Battalion at the front line, where they are currently short of food and ammunition; the situation is very urgent."
"Meet at 2 PM next to the supply truck at the east gate of the camp. There will be 8 people in total. The team leader has already made the decision. I'll go with you."
"What about the others?"
"Come with me, we're about to have a briefing." Alexei waved, signaling Lu Ye to follow.
When they arrived at the tent in the center of the camp, there were already six people waiting, some sitting and some standing.
Colonel Igor leaned against the folding table and nodded slightly when he saw Lu Ye enter.
"Everyone's here. Let me introduce you." Igor cleared his throat. "This escort mission's destination is the cannon fodder battalion seventeen kilometers ahead. The route passes through the 'Death Highway,' where enemy forces have been frequently active recently."
After the mission briefing was completed, Igor asked, "We're leaving at 2 PM! Any problems?"
"No problem!" one of them replied. He was about forty years old, tall and burly, with a hideous scar on his face.
Igor nodded and then stepped out of the tent.
The man who answered the question stood up and walked up to Lu Ye: "I am Dmitry, a veteran of the Russian army. I have fought in many battles over the years. I am in full command of this mission."
Lu Ye sensed that this person was very unhappy.
"I disagree with the colonel sending someone to me! Even though my team lost a sniper assistant a few days ago!" Dmitry glared at Lu Ye. "Adding another person rashly will greatly reduce the team's coordination!"
"However, on Vasily's advice, I agreed! I hope you won't let Vasily down!"
"Yes, Captain!" Lu Ye kept his eyes on Dmitri. He couldn't look away at this moment; to do so would be cowardice and a lack of confidence.
The two men stared at each other for a moment. Dmitry nodded and pointed to a thin young man carrying a sniper rifle, saying, "This is Seryozha, our team's sniper. He used to be in the Russian special forces. He's an excellent marksman and doesn't talk much. For this mission, you'll be his second-in-command, the spotter and assistant gunner."
Seryozha, carrying an SVD sniper rifle, glanced at Lu Ye, said nothing, and simply nodded slightly as a greeting.
