Chapter 31 Abandon the car and take the mountain road

Chapter 31 Abandon the car and take the mountain road

Adil was anxious because he couldn't wait any longer. He had been away from Baghdadi village for over a week, and he was worried about his father's safety, especially after today's events, which made him even more certain that his father was in danger.

Lu Chen looked out the car window. There were no more guard posts in sight. The roadsides were littered with the remnants of war. Every piece of land and every tile bore the mark of bloodshed.

He looked at the mountains on both sides, and his eyes lit up. If the main road was impassable, he would abandon the car and take the mountain road. Of course, that would be much slower, but it would be much safer.

"Chen, is there any other way? Maybe we should just force our way in," Mike said anxiously. If they waited any longer, it would be difficult to escape once the militants surrounded them.

Lu Chen turned to look at Adila, thought for a moment, and said seriously, "Abandon the vehicle and take the mountain road. Also, contact Ibn immediately and have him arrange for his men to meet us in the village closest to Baghdadi."

"What? Abandon the car and take the mountain road? That's too slow. This isn't a good idea," Mike said, shaking his head. He disagreed with the plan, as it would be too slow, and no one could guarantee that there weren't any armed men on the mountain.

"Mike, listen, there's definitely a tight net on the main road, while the mountain road is relatively safe, although it's a longer route. Our mission is to get people back safely, not to send them to their deaths," Lu Chen said seriously.

Mike frowned, turned to look at Adile, and helplessly shrugged, saying, "Okay, Adile agrees, let's do it this way."

Lu Chen looked at Adile, waiting for her answer. After all, she was the sugar daddy, and her opinion was very important. Afraid that she would disagree, he continued, "I believe your enemies would never expect you to take the mountain path. Even if there are ambushes on the mountain, they should only be a small number of people. These ambushes are a piece of cake for us."

Adila wasn't afraid of hardship, but she was worried about time. However, if she couldn't return alive, her father would be in even greater danger. She gritted her teeth, made up her mind, and nodded, saying, "Chen, I'll listen to you."

With Adile's consent, Lu Chen looked at Mike, waiting for him to make a decision.

Mike gave a wry smile and said, "Alright, we'll do it your way."

After he finished speaking, he said into the walkie-talkie, "Everyone, take your weapons, equipment, and necessary supplies, abandon the vehicles, and walk along the mountain road." After he finished speaking, he opened the car door and got out.

Lu Chen patted Adile on the shoulder and said, "Alright, pack up and get off the bus." After he finished speaking, he took all his equipment. The other supplies were in his backpack, so there wasn't much to pack.

He pushed open the car door and got out, just in time to see Anthony, James, and Alex walking towards him.

James, known for his fiery temper, sat down directly in front of Mike and shouted, "Boss, what happened? Why did you abandon the car and take the mountain road?"

Despite being the captain, Mike knew it was more important to persuade his teammates. He looked at the three of them seriously and said, "All the main roads are blocked now, and there are a lot of armed men blocking our way. We can't get through at all. The safest way to get Adile back safely is by taking the mountain road. Even though it's very profitable, we need to be alive to spend it."

Although everyone is a mercenary, nobody wants to die. It's a very simple question, and for safety's sake, no one has any objections.

James nodded and said, "Okay, you're right." They started to go back and pack their things.

Lu Chen looked at the main road and then at the mountains on both sides. He said decisively, "Mike, we can't leave the car here. We have to hide it. Otherwise, if it's discovered, our whereabouts will be exposed. I suggest we drive the car into the jungle at the foot of the mountain."

Mike understood, and he nodded, saying, "Do as you say." He then gave the order into the walkie-talkie again.

Mike drove the Hummer, which roared and sped off the main road, rushing down the wasteland towards the foot of the mountain.

As he drove, he handed the satellite phone to Adile and said loudly, "Contact your father and have him arrange for the most reliable people to meet us in Heyate village."

Adile took the satellite phone, thought for a moment, dialed a number, and ten seconds later, the call was connected, with an old voice coming from the other end.

Adile exclaimed, "Father, you're alright!"

"I'm fine. Where are you? I'm so glad to hear your voice," Ibn's voice came through the phone.

Lu Chen frowned and patted Adile on the shoulder, signaling him to get down to business.

Adile nodded and said into the phone, "Father, arrange for the most reliable people to meet us in Heyate Village."

"Don't worry, I'll have Commander Ali go personally," Ibn's voice came through the phone.

Lu Chen was worried that Adile would expose his whereabouts, so he took the phone directly, turned it off, smiled and said, "Save on phone bills, you can catch up when you get home." After he finished speaking, he handed the phone to Mike.

Mike took the phone, looked back at Lu Chen, and smiled. He understood, Lu Chen understood, but Adila didn't, but that didn't matter.

Mike drove a Hummer and James drove a pickup truck, speeding across the wilderness, leaving two trails of dust behind them.

After about twenty minutes, they arrived at a thicket of bushes closest to the mountains. Mike slammed on the brakes and shook his head, saying, "The mountains are just ahead; we can't go any further."

"We're far from the main road now, they won't find us, so we'll hide the car here," Lu Chen said loudly. After he finished speaking, he pushed open the car door and jumped out of the car.

The bushes here were very dense, making it easy to hide two cars. After the group hid the cars, they checked the direction and Mike pointed to the right and said, "We'll go up the mountain from here." He then waved to Alex.

Alex led the way with a submachine gun, followed by James and Anthony. Mike, Lu Chen, and Adile walked in the middle.

The group of six stretched out a bit, about thirty meters long, to ensure that they could communicate with each other via walkie-talkie.

As Lu Chen walked, he looked around at the mountains. The mountain path was covered with dense bushes and there weren't many tall trees. If he stood at a high point, he would have a good view and be able to see the general area.

He looked up at the mountaintop and said with a worried expression, "Boss, I have a feeling they'll set up sentries, or even snipers, on the mountaintop."

His words immediately stopped Mike in his tracks. He turned around and looked at Lu Chen with a serious expression. After a few seconds of silence, he said into the walkie-talkie, "Everyone take cover." After he finished speaking, he rushed to the side of the bushes and hid.

With that, Alex, who was walking at the front, quickly rushed behind the bushes and hid.

James and Anthony also rushed to the sides to hide.

Lu Chen was speechless; he was just guessing.
